Kara Miller is a partner in the matrimonial and family law practice group. Ms. Miller handles cases involving issues of complex custody disputes, equitable distribution, spousal support, child support, and allegations of domestic violence (representing parties on both sides of the allegations). Ms. Miller has extensive experience as a litigating attorney, having tried divorce actions, involving custody, child support, equitable distribution, maintenance, and counsel fee applications, in Supreme Courts, and custody, child support, and Order of Protection matters in Family Courts. Ms. Miller has also prosecuted and defended clients in actions involving allegations of contempt of court, in both Supreme Courts and Family Courts. Ms. Miller has handled appellate matters involving a myriad of issues, from the validity of a divorce to the courts’ determinations of disputed actions to trial related evidentiary issues. Ms. Miller has represented clients in matrimonial, Family Court, and appellate proceedings in courts throughout the State of New York, including each of the five (5) boroughs of New York City, Westchester Nassau County, and Suffolk County. Prior to joining Jaspan Schlesinger Narendran LLP, Kara was a senior associate at a matrimonial and family law firm. She joined said firm from a New York City firm, where her practice focused on matrimonial and family law and matters involving trust and estates litigation. From 2002 through 2005, Ms. Miller served as an Assistant District Attorney in the Domestic Violence/Child Abuse/Sex Crimes Bureau of the Bronx County District Attorney’s Office. She received her J.D. from New York Law School, where she was bestowed the Alexander D. Forger Award for Distinguished Service to the Profession, and where she had also been awarded a Public Service Fellowship. Before becoming an attorney, Ms. Miller served as a director at a domestic violence crisis center in New Hampshire. Ms. Miller oversaw an office which provided legal advocacy, social service advocacy, and support and counseling services to more than 13,000 victims of domestic violence each year, in a county servicing 13 cities and towns. Ms. Miller has also been published in the State of New Hampshire “A Legal Handbook for Women In New Hampshire”, a publication to which she served as a contributing author and an editor.
