David Nie is a Partner in Ice Miller's Public & Municipal Finance practice. David has served as bond counsel, borrower's counsel, issuer's counsel, bank counsel and underwriter's counsel in a variety of taxable and tax-exempt financings involving hospitals, health systems, senior living providers, 501(c)(3) organizations, private colleges & universities, cultural institutions, private K-12 schools, and municipal power agencies. He has assisted in all phases of the borrowing process, including drafting of proceedings, advising on permissible financing structures and federal tax and securities matters, preparing disclosure materials and closing documents and assisting borrowers develop post-issuance best practices and procedures. David's experience includes working with secured and unsecured short-term obligations, swaps, various forms of credit enhancement, revenue pledges, mortgage financings and multimodal indentures. Over the course of his 15 year career, he has developed relationships with financial advisory firms, various financial institutions and industry groups creating a network of information and resources he utilizes in his practice to best serve his clients. Prior to law school, David worked for Morningstar Inc., a global investment research firm based in Chicago. While in law school, Nie was selected and served as a tutor in the Dean's Tutorial Society and an articles editor for the Indiana Health Law Review. He was also a member of the moot court Order of the Barristers, served as a legal intern in the Office of the Lt. Governor of the state of Indiana, served in the law school's Disability Clinic and received the Distinguished Writing Award for his Note published in Volume IV of the Indiana Health Law Review. David is admitted to practice law in the state of Indiana.
