Derek Bishop is a Partner in the Employment practice group. His practice focuses on complex civil litigation and employment law. He defends employers against claims of discrimination, harassment, retaliation, wrongful termination, and violation of wage and hour laws brought either by individual employees or on behalf of a class of employees. In addition, he defends clients involved in other complex civil disputes, including claims for violation of the Consumer Protection Act and breach of contract. Mr. Bishop also counsels employers and conducts client-focused trainings on issues including the Public Records Act, harassment and discrimination. Mr. Bishop has successfully represented clients in arbitration, as well as state and federal trial and appellate courts. He has also successfully represented clients before state and federal agencies including the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the Washington State Human Rights Commission, and the Seattle Office for Civil Rights. Before entering private practice, Mr. Bishop served as a Law Clerk for the Honorable Richard B. Sanders of the Washington State Supreme Court. For each of the past three years, Mr. Bishop has been recognized as a Rising Star in the State of Washington, an annual listing of the top attorneys in the state who are 40 years old or younger, or who have been practicing for 10 years or less.
