Bio

Dennis Brown is the Managing Partner of the Connecticut office, and member of the firm's Insurance, Class Action, Environmental/Toxic Tort, Tort & Product Liability, Maritime Law and Commercial Litigation practice groups. Mr. Brown primarily guides international insurance clients in resolving complex contentious matters, typically involving claims of unfair insurance practices and bad faith. He has a demonstrated ability to prevail in trials addressing difficult issues such as sophisticated scientific, medical, economic and accounting disputes but never stops seeking cost-effective, economically justified solutions to significant risks. Mr. Brown frequently serves as a “parachute” counsel in large cases outside Connecticut where early adverse rulings have put his clients at risk. Mr. Brown has also supervised the defense of hundreds of employment, product liability, property, toxic substances and asbestos claims. He has provided advice and litigation defense on coverage issues to U.S. and London based insurers, including defense of claimed pollution coverage, advertising claims, D&O issues, maritime disaster claims, industrial construction claims, and various property and general liability coverage issues. He has represented insurers in significant first party property claims arising from industrial accidents and hurricane damage to oil platforms in the Gulf of Mexico. Mr. Brown has substantial class action experience including product liability matters, price-fixing cases, cases involving pension rights and employment practices after corporate mergers, cases involving allegations of market misconduct in the insurance industry and various matters alleging consumer fraud. Mr. Brown once secured two writs of mandamus from the Texas Court of Appeals eventually leading to decertification of a class action litigation pending in that state. Mr. Brown also has significant commercial litigation trial experience including business interference, securities fraud and whistleblower claims. He also successfully defended Connecticut's former Deputy Housing Commissioner against corruption charges brought by a federal special prosecutor in Washington, D.C.
