She focuses her practice on defending international, multi-million dollar companies in product liability, premises liability, and toxic tort litigation. She has significant experience representing property owners, developers, retail stores, and management companies against premises liability claims. She has extensive experience in handling and defending complex expert and corporate representative depositions. She is also well versed in defending clients in complex litigation involving trucking, construction defects, medical malpractice, and catastrophic injuries. Prior to joining Gordon Rees, Ms. Cook litigated first-party property insurance claims in both Texas and Illinois state and federal courts. These involved catastrophic property and personal insurance claims, as well as third-party casualty matters involving wrongful death and severe physical injuries. Before relocating to Texas, Ms. Cook served as a municipal attorney for the City of Chicago and defended Chicago police officers in federal police misconduct cases involving false imprisonments, excessive force and wrongful death. During her tenure with the City of Chicago, Ms. Cook successfully tried numerous cases to verdict in federal and state courts, serving as both lead and secondary counsel. She also served as an arbitrator for minor tort claims for more than two years involving property claims and car accidents. Ms. Cook also has extensive experience litigating quasi-criminal cases, which involved municipal code violations, evictions and criminal abatements in front of administrative bodies and in housing court. Ms. Cook was also extremely involved in working in the Chicago community to implement the Drug and Gang House Ordinance that punished homeowners who allowed criminal activity on their properties. After graduating law school, Ms. Cook practiced criminal appellate law while serving as an Assistant Cook County States’ Attorney in Chicago, Illinois.
