Bio

Louis Dorny is a trial attorney and advisor to U.S. and foreign businesses. He represents clients before state and federal courts, arbitrations and administrative agencies. Areas of expertise include all aspects of intellectual property including trademarks, copyrights, and trade secrets; unfair competition including antitrust, restrictive covenants and invention assignment agreements. In addition, Mr. Dorny provides counsel in white collar criminal defense matters. He has conducted internal investigations for private and publicly-held corporate clients, including defense contractors and private physician’s groups. Mr. Dorny also prosecutes and defends applications for injunctive relief and/or damages for infringement, false advertising, false designation of origin, trademark counterfeiting (including Court Ordered ex parte seizures of goods bearing counterfeit trademarks), trade secret, and unfair competition claims, under the Lanham Act, the Copyright Act, the related Digital Millennium Act, state statutes protecting IP, and common law. He has tried more than a dozen jury trials, argued appeals before both the U.S. Court of Appeals, Ninth Circuit and California Court of Appeal. He is a Contributing Editor to the treatise Trade Secret Litigation and Protection in California (3d. ed., 2014, Intellectual Property Section of the State Bar of California) and has lectured written on eDiscovery, copyright law, privacy law, supply chains and trade secrets. A. Louis Dorny, partner in the firm’s litigation practice, was appointed to the Central District of California’s Magistrate Judge Merit Selection Panel for a three year term, effective Jan. 1, 2018. A former UNIX/Linux systems administrator, he is certified by the International Association of Privacy Professionals (CIPP/US) and advises clients in privacy and cyber security compliance.

Education
