Bio

Ed Batts is a partner in the Palo Alto office of Gibson Dunn. He focuses his corporate practice on mergers and acquisitions, including cross-border transactions, spin-offs, tender offers and going private transactions. He also counsels public companies on corporate governance and fiduciary duties, as well as crisis management on cyber-security and internal investigations, activist investor situations and accounting issues. Mr. Batts has significant experience in venture capital and equity capital markets transactions. In 2019, he was named both an Acritas Star and a BTI Client Service All Star. Before joining Gibson Dunn, Mr. Batts practiced with Orrick as global head of their M&A and private equity practice from 2016, and previously with DLA Piper, in each case in Silicon Valley. He is a military officer veteran and former federal special agent, as a graduate of the Criminal Investigator Training Program at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC). He served with both the Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS) and the Air Force Office of Special Investigations (AFOSI). He received his law degree from Stanford Law School in 1998 and earned his B.A. from the University of California, Los Angeles, summa cum laude, in 1995.
