Bio

Maurice Guinn grew up in Erwin, Tennessee. He graduated from the University of Tennessee in 1974, after serving two years in the United States Army. In 1977, he graduated from University of Memphis School of Law. While there, he served as the Associate Comments Editor on the University of Memphis Law Review and was the recipient of the American Jurisprudence Award in Constitutional Law. Mr. Guinn worked with the Office of General Counsel for the United States Department of Agriculture in Little Rock, Arkansas from 1978-1982. Before joining Gentry, Tipton & McLemore, P.C., he was a law clerk for the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of Tennessee from 1982-1987. Mr. Guinn has been admitted to practice law in all Tennessee courts, the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Tennessee, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit. He is a member of the Knoxville and Tennessee Bar Associations. Mr. Guinn is a past Chair for the Tennessee Bar Association Bankruptcy Section. He is a former member of the Chapter 7 Trustee Panel, Eastern District of Tennessee. Mr. Guinn was the trustee-plaintiff in Guinn v. Lines (In re Trans-Lines West, Inc.), 203 B.R. 653 (Bankr. E.D. Tenn. 1996), in which the court held a debtor’s revocation of Subchapter S status is a fraudulent transfer under the Bankruptcy Code. Mr. Guinn is a board member of the Mid-South Commercial Law Institute. He is also a board member and the Secretary for Focus Ministries, a faith-based prison ministry.
