Bio

Eduardo Michan is passionate about tax matters. With his advice, clients benefit from invaluable experience obtained from his participation in several complex transactions in different sectors and industries. He frequently represents commercial and investment banks, private equity funds, pension funds and international corporations with respect to the tax effects in M&A, financing and real estate transactions. In addition, he has advised non-for-profit organizations with respect to the compliance of tax obligations to be entitled to receive deductible donations. He was a tax partner in a big four firm and previously he worked as a foreign associate in Patterson, Belknap, Webb & Tyler in New York; he was Vice-President of New Product Development at Merrill Lynch, and also worked for a Mexican law firm. He obtained his law degree. Then, he studied a postgraduate degree in Tax Law at the Escuela Libre de Derecho. He also completed a Diploma in International Tax Law from the joint program of Duke University and Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México (ITAM), and a Diploma in Finance from the Instituto Tecnológico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey (ITESM). He holds a LL.M. in International Business Law from King´s College London where he studied with a CONACYT scholarship. Currently, Eduardo teaches Tax Law in the postgraduate degree at the Escuela Libre de Derecho. He has been a lecturer in other Universities, including ITAM, ITESM, Universidad Panamericana and Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM). He is the President of the International Tax Committee of the Mexican Institute of Public Accountants and he is an active member of the International Fiscal Association and the Tax Committee of the Mexican Private Equity Association (AMEXCAP). Eduardo co-authored the book Transfer Pricing Litigation: Theory and Practice published by Lexis-Nexis where he wrote the Mexican chapter. He is also author of various tax articles available in different publications. He has been a speaker of tax matters in seminars in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Mexico and the United States. He was the leader of the team who won the 2018 Americas Real Estate Tax Deal for GIC´s investment with CCLA awarded by International Tax Review (ITR). He was also a member of the team who won the 2016 Americas Real Estate Tax Deal of the Year for Blackstone´s acquisition of GE Real Estate Mexico lending platform and commercial real estate loan portfolio, also awarded by The International Tax Review (ITR). Eduardo is recognized as an expert lawyer by The Legal 500 2023 Latin American Guide in his field of practice.
