Bio

Carlos De Maria Y Campos is co-leader of the Energy and Projects practice in Galicia. He specializes in electricity, hydrocarbons, alternative energy, and infrastructure, the latter with an emphasis on project finance. Clients benefit from his vast experience gained in advising on complex transactions in the national and international market. His in-depth knowledge of the sector and his creativity as a recognized specialist in the field enables him to offer unique and efficient advice on each project. Carlos frequently advises and represents contractors, developers, credit institutions, multilateral agencies and, occasionally, has even provided advise to the state-owned companies, PEMEX and CFE. He frequently collaborates with our Environmental, M&A, Antitrust, International Trade, Arbitration, Commercial and Administrative Litigation teams in matters related to the development and financing of energy and infrastructure projects, and the defense of their interests. Carlos´ practices main differentiator is the ability to offer its clients an integral approach that allows the Firm’s transactional strengths, regulatory offerings and strategic capabilities in litigation, with a sharp focus and unmatched record of accomplishment in the industry. Carlos teaches energy law and project finance at several leading Mexican universities. He is also a passionate soccer player and actively participates in international tournaments. Carlos was a visiting professor of Energy Law at the University of Cambridge in the United Kingdom. He currently serves as vice-president of the Academia Mexicana de Derecho Energético (AMDE) and was the first Mexican board member in the Association of International Petroleum Negotiators (AIPN). Carlos is Vice-Chairman of the Energy Committee and member of the Energy Task Force of the Canadian Chamber of Commerce in Mexico. He worked as foreign associate at the Washington, D.C. office of Cleary, Gottlieb, Steen & Hamilton. Carlos is recognized as Band 1 expert in The 2023 Chambers Latin American Guide in the Energy & Natural Resources, and Projects practices. In addition, he is considered as “Hall of Fame” in the Energy and Natural Resources practice and as expert in Projects by The Legal 500 2023 Latin American Guide. The French publication Leaders League recognizes his expertise in advising clients in highly regulated industries, and jointly with Latin Lawyer and IFLR1000 he is considered as a leading practitioner in the Mexican legal sector. He is member of the Galicia’s Business Development Committee.
