Terry Stein is a partner and Chair of the Firm’s Tax Group. He focuses on domestic and international tax matters, especially mergers, acquisitions, dispositions, reorganizations, restructurings, workouts, joint ventures, and structuring of business transactions. Terry represents real estate, venture capital, private equity and hedge funds, as well as United States and foreign investors in such funds. He also represents individual and corporate clients in audits and other tax controversies involving federal or state tax matters, and has served as an expert witness in tax cases. In 2013, Terry was appointed as adjunct professor at John Marshall School of Law. He is also a member of the American Bar Association, Chicago Bar Association, and Chicago Tax Club. Terry received his B.B.A. from the University of Wisconsin School of Business, where he graduated first in his class. He received his J.D. from Harvard Law School. Prior to joining Fox Swibel, Terry was a member of the Executive Committee of a leading Chicago law firm. He also formerly served as the chairman of the Corporate Tax Division of the Federal Taxation Committee of the Chicago Bar Association.
