Bio

Allen Kim practices intellectual property law and is registered before the United States Patent and Trademark Office. His practice focuses on preparation and worldwide prosecution of patents, as well as patent counseling and opinions, managing patent portfolios, due diligence evaluations, technology assessments, and intellectual property aspects of mergers and acquisitions. He has drafted over 100 patent applications and prosecuted to issuance hundreds of patent applications. Mr. Kim has prosecuted various computer and electronics technologies, including software such as operating systems, mobile applications, social networking, user interfaces, content delivery, input devices, user experience, signal processing; semiconductor devices and fabrication; integrated circuits; firmware; wireless technologies; antennas; GPS; and other technologies, automotive technologies; hybrid electric motors; aeronautical technologies; robotics; medical devices, including respiratory devices, IV devices, and dispensing systems; and other mechanical devices. Mr. Kim has worked at various law firms in southern California, including McDermott Will & Emery immediately prior to joining FisherBroyles. He has extensive experience with counseling large corporate clients in patent strategies, including a secondment at a multi-national semiconductor company. He has also served as a judicial extern for the Honorable Judge Florence-Marie Cooper of the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California. Prior to attending law school, Mr. Kim was a software engineer for several years, including experience at an artificial intelligence (AI) company working with AI technologies such as machine-learning, data-mining, and case-based-reasoning. He developed a user interface that implemented an authentication system meeting the rigid requirements necessary for banks and financial institutions. He also worked at a web startup, building a dynamic user interface from the ground up as well as developing back end software for managing databases. Mr. Kim can also speak, read, and write Korean.
