Yi Yu Bio

Yi Yu, Ph.D., practices all aspects of patent law, including patent litigation, post-grant proceedings, patent prosecution, patent portfolio development, and client counseling related to computers, consumer electronics, software, medical devices, and information systems. Yi has experience in numerous aspects of litigation, including analyzing patents, developing infringement and validity strategies, drafting written discovery, managing document production, working with technical experts, preparing expert reports, and drafting motions and legal briefs. Her patent office practice includes drafting and prosecuting U.S. and foreign patent applications, and representing clients in post-grant review proceedings before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB) of the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). Yi’s diverse technological experience encompasses all aspects of electrical and computer technologies, including telecommunications, computer networks, image and video processing, medical devices, unmanned aerial systems, software, and business methods. Prior to joining Finnegan, Yi worked as a technical staff member at Blackberry Limited, conducting research and standards development on 4G long term evolution (LTE) and LTE-Advanced telecommunication systems, and is a named inventor on more than one hundred U.S. patents. Her doctoral study focused on physical layer modeling for wireless communication systems. While conducting her research, Yi served as a technical program committee member and reviewer for various journals and conference proceedings of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) communications and signal processing societies.
