Don Bowes acts for numerous small business owners and entrepreneurs, successful families and professionals. From advising on business structures to negotiating and closing complex commercial transactions, Don helps his clients achieve their goals at every stage of the business lifecycle. His practice includes extensive work in corporate tax planning, especially in divestiture planning for small business corporations. This work includes qualified small business corporation share planning and plan implementation. He advises clients on business succession planning and implementation, including both management/employee buy-outs and intergenerational transfers of family businesses. Don has significant experience dealing with the taxation issues that are specifically applicable to related party share ownership transitions. Don’s experience also includes tax planning and implementation relating to the so-called “21-year-rule” pertaining to Canadian resident trusts. Don co-chairs the firm's business law practice.
