Frederick “Rick” Montgomery is a founding member of the Firm and heads its Litigation Department. Rick is an experienced civil trial lawyer with more than 40 years of practice in Santa Barbara. His civil litigation practice is focused in the areas of real estate, commercial and business transactions, intellectual property, probate and estates, construction and family law involving complex business assets. While centered in Santa Barbara, when the needs of the Firm’s clients require, his practice involves trials, arbitrations and other litigation in the state and Federal courts, both trial and appellate, throughout California, as well as in other states and jurisdictions. Rick received his undergraduate degree from Stanford University in 1967 (B.A. in Political Science) and his law degree from the University of California, Hastings College of Law in 1970. Rick was a Member of the Staff and, thereafter, Managing Editor of the Hastings Law Journal, and graduated as a member of the Order of the Coif and Thurston Society. Rick was admitted to practice law in 1971 and is a member of the State Bar of California and the Santa Barbara County Bar Association.
