James Hash grew up in the mountains of Alleghany County, N.C., and attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill as a North Carolina Teaching Fellow, majoring in both United States history and journalism. After earning his master’s degree in teaching from UNC in 2001, James spent the next four years teaching history and serving as an assistant football and baseball coach at Northern High School in Durham. In 2005, James left teaching to attend the Norman A. Wiggins School of Law at Campbell University, where he graduated cum laude. While at Campbell, James served as a comments editor of the Campbell Law Review, participated in both national and international moot court competitions, and was elected to Phi Kappa Phi.
