Bio

Mark practices extensively in the life sciences area, representing start-up and development stage companies that develop and manufacture pharmaceutical and biotechnology products, diagnostics, and medical devices. Mark has handled a wide range of life science matters, including the formation of various strategic alliances and joint ventures, in-licensing and out-licensing of technology, clinical trial contracting, business planning and financing, FDA regulatory work, manufacturing and distribution contracting, and intellectual property strategy. He serves as General Counsel to a biopharmaceutical and medical device company specializing in pregnancy health, which he helped form and establish. Mark also represents physician groups, hospitals and other health care providers in all facets of their business, including general corporate matters, licensure issues, employment matters, equipment and office leasing, business litigation, regulatory compliance, physician-hospital contracting, third-party payor contracting, and clinical research contracting. In addition, Mark provides general corporate representation to several local businesses, ranging from large, established corporations to small, start-up companies to nonprofit corporations. Finally, Mark has a broad background in commercial litigation, having represented business clients in several multi-million dollar cases. Mark has successfully represented clients before both state and federal courts of appeal. In law school, Mark worked as an intern for the Honorable John T. Nixon, U.S. District Court Judge for the Middle District of Tennessee. Prior to co-founding this firm, Mark was a partner at a large, regional law firm, where he led its Chattanooga office’s health law practice. In addition to his law practice, Mark is a Managing Partner and co-founder of Solas BioVentures Fund I, L.P., a venture capital fund located in Chattanooga that invests in biotech and medical device companies throughout the U.S.
