Yashojit Mitra oversees the corporate commercial practice at ELP across all its offices. He is responsible for managing the corporate commercial team, which handles various complex domestic and international transactions. The team has deep experience in handling mergers, acquisitions and private equity transactions, including all aspects of negotiations, drafting and diligence requirements. Yashojit has also been part of many matters involving applicable foreign exchange laws where he has led the ELP team in formulating strategy, drafting of replies to the authorities in proceedings initiated by the enforcement directorate or other relevant governmental authorities and preparing compounding applications (as necessary). With over 19 years of experience, Yashojit is proficient in understanding commercial requirements of clients and has experience in formulating compliant and practical solutions for them. Over the years, Yashojit has advised various prestigious Indian and international clients, including Rolex Group, Reliance Industries Limited, Adani Wilmar Limited, Johnson Controls group, Platinum Jubilee Investments Limited, Waterfield group, Samarthya Investment Advisors, Shamrock PharmaChemi group in acquisition and private equity transactions undertaken by them and/or for their regular corporate law advisory requirements. Yashojit has been recognized as Notable Practitioner in Corporate & M&A by IFLR1000. He is named as a Recommended lawyer in investment funds by Legal 500. Yashojit also features in the Forbes’ list of India’s top 100 lawyers. Yashojit has been a regular keynote speaker, a moderator and a panelist at several international and national conferences, legal fora and academic seminars. Additionally, he is actively involved in the administration and various knowledge development initiatives of the firm. Prior to ELP, Yashojit served as a partner at Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas as part of the corporate commercial team. He has completed his higher secondary education from St. Xaviers, Calcutta and his legal education from Symbiosis Law School, Pune, in 2003. He was awarded the Namdar Gopalkrushna Gokhale Gold Medal and Justice Dilip Bhosale Award by the University of Pune for securing the first rank in the LL.B. examination. He is a qualified Indian lawyer and also admitted to practice in the Supreme Court of England and Wales. He has also successfully passed the Limited Insolvency Exam conducted by the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Board of India (IBBI) and is registered as an “Insolvency Resolution Professional” with IBBI.
