Guillermo Zúñiga Bio

Guillermo is leading partner of the Real Estate and Urban Planning, Corporate, and Mergers & Acquisitions areas, as well as Co-Director of ECIJA Costa Rica’s Energy Law practice. With a professional career spanning over twenty-five years, he has focused his practice on advising foreign investment in both Costa Rica and Central America. He leads multidisciplinary, cross-border teams in executing projects commissioned by multinational companies, known for his commitment and customer service reputation. His corporate and M&A practice focuses on high-profile transactions involving multiple jurisdictions, participating in both due diligence investigations and the design of transaction structures, such as share purchases, mergers, spin-offs, asset buy-sell transactions, and other corporate vehicles. Guillermo has extensive experience in renewable energy projects and is recognized as one of the top lawyers in this field in Costa Rica and Latin America. He has advised clients in their relations with government entities and private institutions, in the design, installation, and operation of renewable energy projects. He has led the development of large commercial and residential projects in high-growth real estate areas, both in the Central Valley and on the Pacific coast of Costa Rica, designing structures that benefit both the development group and the end client. He specializes in condominium developments, both vertical and horizontal, as well as in the subdivision of large plots of land. His involvement includes due diligence investigations for purchasing future project lands, as well as the creation of schemes and investment vehicles to enable project development while obtaining all necessary regulatory approvals. Guillermo serves as a member of various boards of directors, both of private companies and non-profit associations in the country. He holds a Law Degree from the University of Costa Rica, an LL.M from Georgetown University, and a Bachelor’s in Economics from the University of Costa Rica. Guillermo is a member of the Costa Rican Bar Association, the National Directorate of Notaries, and the New York State Bar Association.
