Bio

Scott Hatcher received his B.A. from the University of Washington (1978) and J.D. from Gonzaga University (1981). He is licensed to practice in the States of Washington and New Mexico, as well as the Ninth and Tenth Circuit Courts of Appeal. After relocating to Santa Fe from a practice in Washington State, from 1983 through January 1996, he was associated with the firm of Felker, Ish, Hatcher, Ritchie, Sullivan & Geer, P.A., having been a shareholder with that firm since 1985. In 1996, Mr. Hatcher formed the firm of Hatcher, Sullivan & Grand, P.A. In 2003, Mr. Hatcher joined Miller Stratvert, P.A. where he practiced until January 2009 when he formed Hatcher & Tebo, P.A. In January 2014, Mr. Hatcher formed the Hatcher Law Group. In August 2022, Mr. Hatcher joined Cuddy & McCarthy, LLP as a Partner. He continues to serve both private insurance and governmental clients, many of which he has represented for 25 years or more. Since 1983, Mr. Hatcher’s work has emphasized many areas of insurance law and public sector litigation, including the defense of policyholders in all types of third party claims. Mr. Hatcher’s practice also emphasizes the representation of insurers in policy coverage and bad faith litigation as well as first party claims. He has been litigation counsel for various governmental agencies at all levels of local and state government. Mr. Hatcher has completed over sixty first chair trials, both jury and non-jury. He has been the lead counsel in several notable New Mexico and federal reported decisions and typically is lead appellate counsel on litigated cases appealed in state and federal courts. Mr. Hatcher has achieved the highest Martindale-Hubbell rating, AV. Further, Mr. Hatcher is a member of the American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA), the Defense Research Institute, the Federation of Defense and Corporate Counsel (FDCC), the New Mexico Defense Lawyers Association, the American Inns of Court and the Federalist Society.
