Mr. Barrera specializes in domestic and transnational transactions, where he regularly advises national clients involved in the infrastructure and energy projects, consumer goods, healthcare, and pharmaceutical industries, as well as venture capital, among others. Mr. Barrera has represented several clients and significant transactions in the market, including advising the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board and the Ontario Teachers Pension Plan in their acquisition of a 40% stake in Impulsora del Desarrollo y el Empleo en America Latina, SAB de CV through a public tender offer on the Mexican Stock Exchange, SAB de CV, the formation of the FIBRA-E of IDEAL, as well as in its acquisition of a certain stake in the “Arco Norte” and “Pacífico Sur” highway projects, advising BlackRock in various acquisition transactions including social infrastructure assets (penitentiary centers and hospitals), advising Riverstone in the formation of Joint Ventures for the development of naval and electric power generation projects, advising Thermion Energy in its acquisition of the “Montecristo” electric power generation project, advising Goldman Sachs in its Joint Venture with GBM in relation to the “Tres Mesas” electric power generation project, advising L Catterton in its acquisition of “Cholula”, Advising Diageo on the acquisition of Don Julio, advising Glisco Partners on the investment of “Grupo Hunan”, “Mármoles Arca” and Mezcal de Amor”, as well as on capital raisings for Luuna and Urbvan, among others. Mr. Barrera also possesses extensive knowledge of ESG matters, particularly with regard to corporate governance, including the creation of governance structures that include diversity standards, ESG policies, and internal compliance review methods. Recently, Mr. Barrera represented Global Infrastructure Partners in its first equity investment in Mexico through the acquisition of Saavi Energy, as well as KKR in its investment in Sempra Energy and Canadian Pacific Railway in its acquisition of Kansas City Southern. Mr. Barrera earned his Law Degree from the Universidad Iberoamericana, Mexico City, in 2008. He also earned a Specialization in Commercial Law from the Universidad Panamericana, Mexico City, in 2009. Mr. Barrera earned his Master of Economic and Energy Policy Management (MPA) from Columbia University in 2012. Mr. Barrera earned his Master of Laws (LLM) from Fordham University in 2013. Mr. Barrera served as an International Attorney in the New York office of Sullivan and Cromwell, LLP from 2013 to 2014. Mr. Barrera is admitted to practice law in Mexico and New York. His native language is Spanish and he is fluent in English.
