Carlos Del Rio Bio

Mr. del Río has practiced law for over twenty years and frequently advises large multinational corporations and domestic and foreign investors and sponsors on acquisitions, investments, joint ventures, and divestitures in Mexico across multiple industries and sectors, including Latécoère, Acco Brands Corporation, Premier Paint Roller, Apex Tool Group, and Archroma. In particular, Mr. del Río has gained significant experience advising Japanese clients on investments, divestitures, or restructurings of their assets in Mexico, serving as special counsel in Mexico for, among others, Nidec Corporation and Fujikura Rubber Ltd. In the private equity and family office arena, Mr. del Río has continued to advise SK Capital Partners and its portfolio companies on their acquisitions and day-to-day operations in Mexico. As a partner in the Firm's real estate team, Mr. del Río has represented pension funds, private equity funds, and other investors in their real estate investments, including industrial investors establishing operations in Mexico or strategic joint ventures for the development and management of real estate assets in Mexico. Most recently, Mr. del Río advised RLH Properties on the acquisition of the Mayakoba portfolio of hotel properties in Quintana Roo and BK Partners on the acquisition of its interest in a multifamily portfolio of properties known as "Ciudad Mayakoba" in Quintana Roo. Mr. del Río is a member of the Mexican Bar Association and the International Bar Association. He has frequently lectured on mergers and acquisitions, private equity, and real estate, and is a frequent contributor and co-author of articles in various specialized publications on matters related to his primary practice areas and pro bono practice. Carlos leads our Corporate Social Responsibility and Pro Bono program and participates as an organizer or speaker at public interest conferences in Mexico and abroad to promote and facilitate pro bono work. He is president of the Board of the Mexican Pro Bono Center and an active member of the Council of Lawyers for Civil and Economic Rights at the Vance Center for International Justice. Mr. del Río worked as a Foreign Associate in the New York office of Simpson Thacher & Bartlett LLP in 2001 and 2002 and in the Latin America practice of the Madrid office of Cuatrecasas, Gonçalves Pereira, SLP from 2003 to 2005. Carlos was born in Mexico City. He received his J.D. from Anáhuac University in Mexico City in 1998 and his LL.M. from Northwestern University School of Law, along with a Certificate in Business Administration from the J.L. Kellogg Graduate School of Management in 2001. He is fluent in Spanish and English.
