Bio

Luis Gerardo Garcia Santos Coy Is A Partner In The Mexico City Office And Member Of The Firm’s Executive Committee. His Practice Focuses On Antitrust And Competition. Mr. Garcia specializes in antitrust and competition law, actively participating in all types of cases before the competition authorities, from complex pre-merger filings, to investigations, administrative procedures, constitutional (Amparo) proceedings, as well as leniency applications. Mr. Garcia also regularly advises multinationals and private equity investors on acquisitions and investments in Mexico across multiple industries, including digital platforms. Mr. Garcia has participated in some of the most relevant and sophisticated cases before the antitrust authorities. Most notably, recently Mr. Garcia advised AT&T in the acquisitions of DirecTV, Nextel Mexico and Time Warner, Delta Airlines in its joint cooperation agreement with and investment in Grupo Aeromexico, and Nokia in the acquisition of sole control over Alcatel-Lucent, among many others. Mr. Garcia has been ranked or cited as Band 1, Tier 1 or equivalent in antitrust and competition by many publications, including: Chambers & Partners, Global Competition Review, The Legal 500, Best Lawyers and Who’s Who Legal. Mr. Garcia is a member of the Mexican Bar Association and the International Bar Association. He is a frequent speaker in national and international events on antitrust related matters and has written multiple articles and papers on various legal subjects, such as ‘Competition and antitrust developments in Mexico’ published by Euromoney in 2012; The Merger Control Review, published by Law Business Research, in 2010, 2011, and 2012; The Cartels and Leniency Review, published by Law Business Research, in 2013, 2014 and 2015; The Dominance and Monopolies Review, published by Law Business Research, in 2015 and 2016; ‘Mexico: New Antitrust Authorities and a New Federal Economic Competition Law’, published by the Journal of European Competition Law & Practice, Oxford University Press in 2014; and ‘Jurisdiction of Antitrust Authorities in Mexico: The case of the Nokia / Alcatel-Lucent merger’, published by Expert Guides in 2016. Mr. Garcia was born in Mexico City, Mexico. He received his law degree (JD) from Universidad Iberoamericana in Mexico City in 1993. He is fluent in Spanish and English.
