Jo-Anne Demers practices commercial litigation with a focus on defending class actions, securities matters, professional liability, cyber insurance and product liability. She represents a wide range of clients and insurers, including large multinational organisations, securities dealers, lawyers and accountants. She frequently defends the interests of various professionals against claims of negligence. Over her 28-year career, Jo-Anne has regularly appeared before all level of Quebec courts, and has pleaded before the Supreme Court of Canada. She has extensive experience in complex multi-jurisdictional litigation, especially as it relates to both class proceedings and professional liability. Jo-Anne has extensive experience in representing professionals such as brokers and accountants before the Disciplinary Councils and appeal before the Professional Tribunal or judicial review before the Superior Court. Jo-Anne is constantly sought out as an expert speaker on insurance litigation, professional liability and she is an accredited lecturer in accordance with the Chambre d'assurance de dommages du Québec. She is a frequent speaker for the Institut Canadien and the Congrès du Barreau. She also gives in-house conference and workshops to clients on current issues for insurers and clients. She was the Technical Editor for Legal issues at CPA Magazine from 2009 to 2014. Jo-Anne is Governor of the Fondation du Barreau du Québec, a member of the Canadian Bar, Quebec Bar, the Montreal Association of Insurance Women, the Professional Liability Underwriting Society (Plus) and is fluently bilingual in French and English. Jo-Anne is ranked one of the leading lawyers in Professional Liability as well as Litigation / Commercial Insurance in the Canadian Legal Lexpert Directory since 2012. She was again selected by her peers for inclusion in The Best Lawyers in Canada 2019 in the field of Insurance Law, for which she is consistently listed.
