Bio

Adam J. Freed is a member of BrownWinick and is a member of the firm’s agribusiness practice group. He is also the current Co-Chair of the firm’s health law practice group. Adam provides legal services in the areas of agribusiness law, health law, banking, and corporate transactions. Adam was raised up on a farm in rural Iowa and takes great pride in his agricultural roots. Adam advises agricultural clients located throughout the country regarding federal, state, and local regulatory issues facing their businesses. Adam has provided legal services to some of the nation’s largest hog producers and numerous value-added-agriculture businesses. In his health law practice, Adam advises health care clients, including covered entities and business associates, with regard to compliance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (“HIPAA”), the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health Act (“HITECH”), and implementation of the HIPAA Omnibus Rule. Adam has presented multiple seminars on the topic. Adam also advises a variety of health care clients regarding the State of Iowa’s Certificate of Need program, as well as state and federal licensure and other regulatory issues. Adam has been involved with numerous projects that successfully obtained Certificates of Need, including several cardiac catheterization labs, several radiation therapy projects, and several nursing facility expansions. BrownWinick represents the Iowa Dental Association, and as a part of that representation, Adam advises the Association on the rulemaking process and proposed legislation. Prior to attending law school, Adam worked for United States Senator Chuck Grassley for five years. In April 2000, Adam joined the Senator's staff as a Legislative Correspondent, handling a variety of issues. He was soon promoted to Legislative Aide. In that position, Adam was integrally involved in consideration of the 2002 Farm Bill. In 2003, then-Chairman Grassley promoted Adam to a position on the staff of the Senate Finance Committee. As a Legislative Aide and Assistant Investigator on the Committee, Adam coordinated the Committee's review of Presidential nominations and participated in the adoption of landmark legislation, including the Working Families Tax Relief Act of 2004 and the American Jobs Creation Act of 2004. He was also a key member of a team that investigated abusive tax schemes and conducted oversight into the operations of various federal agencies. Adam graduated, summa cum laude, from the University of Northern Iowa in 1999, receiving his B.A. in Political Science. He received his J.D., with high distinction, from the University of Iowa in 2007. While at the University of Iowa, he was a member of the Iowa Law Review (2006-2007) and the Moot Court Board (2006-2007). Adam is a member of the Polk County and Iowa State Bar Associations. He is also a member of the American Health Lawyers Association. Adam has been selected for inclusion in Super Lawyers as a Rising Star in the area of Health Care. Adam was admitted to the Iowa bar in 2008.
