Joseph Montel is of counsel to Bose McKinney & Evans and a member of the firm’s Business Services and Financial Services Groups. Joe is well-versed in negotiating and structuring mergers, acquisitions and divestitures of assets and equity. His practice also includes corporate, real estate, financing and commercial matters. Prior to joining Bose McKinney & Evans, Joe provided counsel to financial institutions on federal and state legal matters. He also provided expert testimony and analysis on bank regulatory matters and served as an outside advisor to companies in the cryptocurrency and cannabis spaces. Joe is an adjunct professor at the Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law, teaching a course on the regulation of financial institutions. He also served as general counsel for a nationwide transportation and logistics company from 2015 until 2024. Joe served as the director of a national bank and a bank holding company from 2006 to 2015, where he took control of problematic SBA loan portfolio and instituted policies and procedures to comply with SBA-SOPs, workouts, offers-in-compromise, conversion and liquidation. He also coordinated SBA review and corrective action memoranda. Joe also spent three years at a large law firm working with privately held businesses, pre-IPO companies and financial institutions on formation and entity selection, structuring of corporate groups, drafting contracts and agreements and advising on mergers and acquisitions and corporate finance issues.
