Bio

Mr. Silbey specializes in working with Members of Congress and their staffs. He has been working on Capitol Hill since he was 14 years old and has held nearly every job in a Congressional Office. Alex grew up on Capitol Hill, where his father worked in both chambers. Silbey’s first job was as an intern and today, most of his clients consult him for expertise from his time working in House Leadership. His experience includes staffing a Member on the Democratic Steering and Policy Committee and staffing his boss on the Organizational Study and Review committee of the Democratic Caucus. He has broad and nuanced expertise in that chamber far beyond the normal experience of the majority of House staff. His most recent job in Congress was as the Senior Policy Advisor for Majority Whip James E. Clyburn (D-SC). In that office, he covered six Committees and their related Appropriations Subcommittees as part of the leadership policy staff. He played an important role in the passage of a range of major legislation including participation in passage of the new G.I. Bill for the 21st Century and the 2008 Farm Bill. Alex's duties involved time on the House Floor dealing directly with Members of Congress on their specific legislative priorities. He worked with other leadership staff to pass major legislation and to include extraordinary provisions in legislation. He worked extensively on annual appropriations, Intelligence and Defense Authorization legislation during the Fiscal Year 2006, 2007 and 2008 cycles. Alex's diverse experience has included directly working with Members of Congress, foreign ambassadors as well as with non-traditional constituent and interest groups.
