Bio

Paulo Cezar Aragao has taken part in some of the largest M&A transactions in Latin America, and his clients include major national and international companies doing business in a variety of economic sectors. He acts as arbitrator in civil, commercial, and especially corporate cases, and appears as expert witness in national and international arbitrations. Over the course of his career, Paulo has dedicated himself to making a contribution to positive social transformation through third-sector institutions and projects, actively participating on boards and councils of organizations such as Endeavor, a non-profit organization promoting entrepreneurship; Fundação Estudar, an institution that fosters development of leaders by supporting academic experiences abroad; the Antonio and Helena Zerrenner Foundation, a charitable institution; MASP - São Paulo Art Museum; and OSESP, the São Paulo State Symphonic Orchestra. He is also vice-president of the Market Arbitration Chamber of B3 SA – Brasil, Bolsa, Balcão, one of the largest stock markets in the world, and a director of Abrasca, the Brazilian Association of Listed Companies, an entity dedicated to the ongoing improvement of Brazil's equity market and the development of publicly-traded companies. He serves as a member of the Capital Markets Advisory Committee of the International Accounting Standards Board – IASB, an international not-for-profit organization dedicated to developing global accounting standards. Because of his renowned experience, Paulo is often asked to speak at national and international conferences, and to contribute to legal reviews and other specialized publications. Before joining BMA, Paulo was managing partner and General Counsel of GP Investimentos (1994-1997), one of the largest and most successful private equity companies in Brazil. He also acted as General Counsel of the Brazilian securities and exchange commission, the CVM – Brazilian Securities Commission (1978-1981).
