Rashid Bahar is an expert on cor­por­ate law and fin­an­cial mar­ket reg­u­la­tions com­bin­ing his exper­i­ence as a prac­ti­tion­er with his aca­dem­ic activ­it­ies. He advises fin­an­cial insti­tu­tions on trans­ac­tion­al and reg­u­lat­ory mat­ters. He acts on com­plex fin­an­cings, where he advises both lenders and bor­row­ers, and on mer­gers & acquis­i­tions in the fin­an­cial industry. He reg­u­larly rep­res­ents cli­ents in licens­ing and enforce­ment pro­ceed­ings before the Swiss Fin­an­cial Mar­ket Super­vis­ory Author­ity FINMA and oth­er author­it­ies. He advises for­eign funds and asset man­agers in offer­ing their products and ser­vices in Switzerland. Swiss and for­eign fin­an­cial insti­tu­tions, asset man­agers, banks, insur­ance com­pan­ies as well as funds and their spon­sors trust Rashid’s expert­ise to nav­ig­ate the Swiss leg­al and reg­u­lat­ory frame­work. They look for his advice on a wide range of cor­por­ate, reg­u­lat­ory and com­mer­cial mat­ters. His in depth under­stand­ing of the fin­an­cial industry and its reg­u­lat­ory frame­work also comes to play in mer­gers & acquis­i­tions and cap­it­al mar­ket trans­ac­tions in this sector. Rashid Bahar is the vice-dean of the Fac­ulty of Law of the Uni­ver­sity of Geneva, where he teaches cor­por­ate law, cor­por­ate restruc­tur­ing, fin­an­cial mar­kets reg­u­la­tion as well as law and eco­nom­ics. He has extens­ively pub­lished in cor­por­ate law and fin­an­cial mar­kets reg­u­la­tion. He is an edit­or of the lead­ing com­ment­ary on the Fed­er­al Act on Fin­an­cial Mar­ket Super­vis­ory Author­ity and the Fed­er­al Act on Fin­an­cial Ser­vices and the Fed­er­al Act on Fin­an­cial Institutions. Rashid is a mem­ber of the exec­ut­ive com­mit­tee of the Cen­ter for Bank­ing and Fin­an­cial Law and the edit­or­i­al com­mit­tee of the Swiss Busi­ness Law Review. He was appoin­ted as an expert mem­ber of the work­ing group of the Fed­er­al Depart­ment of Fin­ance respons­ible for draft­ing the Fed­er­al Act of Fin­an­cial Ser­vices (FinSA) and its imple­ment­ing ordin­ance and par­ti­cip­ated in par­lia­ment­ary hear­ings at can­ton­al and fed­er­al level.
