Charles has been Senior Partner of Addleshaw Goddard LLP since 1 May 2016. He is a Corporate Partner based in the London office and was previously the firm's Head of Corporate Finance. He specialises in mainstream corporate finance and has acted over the years for a number of public and private companies, including US, South African and Japanese corporates, as well as intermediaries, on a wide range of transactions, including mergers and acquisitions (particularly public takeovers), securities issues and joint ventures. Before joining Addleshaw Goddard in Autumn 2005, Charles worked at Lovells where he started his career in 1982. Whilst there, he spent a two-year secondment as Secretary of the UK Takeover Panel, as well as two periods posted to the US, including being the Resident Managing Partner of Lovells' New York office between 1999 and 2002. Clients for whom Charles has acted over the years include ClearStar, Inc., Cooper Industries, Exxon Mobil Corporation, Guardian Media Group plc, the Holiday Extras Group, Mars Inc., MyCelx Technologies Corporation, Polar Capital Holdings plc, PZ Cussons plc, Rathbone Brothers Plc, Reliance Steel & Aluminum Co., Resolution Plc, SABMiller plc and the WSH Group. He also acts regularly for the UK's Takeover Panel.
