Bio

Marc Cooper joined the Firm in 1999 as a partner. He was named a Vice Chairman in July 2013 and elevated to Chief Executive Officer in 2016.Mr. Cooper’s broad based experience spans strategic advisory assignments as well as capital markets and merger and acquisition transactions. These include buy and sell side assignments, private financings and restructurings. In his 25 years as an investment banker, he has concentrated on the retail, apparel and consumer products sectors. In his 15 years with PJSC, he has represented numerous branded companies, including most recently Proenza Schouler on its minority investment by private equity firm Castanea Partners, the Board of Directors of American Apparel on its investment by Standard General, Golden Gate Capital on its sale of Zale, the Board of Directors of Jones Group, Inc. on its sale to Sycamore Partners, rag & bone, Kenneth Cole, PPR on its sales of The Sportsman’s Guide, Inc., and OneStopPlus Group. Before assuming his position as Vice Chairman, Mr. Cooper served as Managing Director and Head of the Firm’s Global Retail Group. Mr. Cooper’s other M&A transactions include Garden Holdings’ sale to AEA Investors, J. McLaughlin’s sale of a majority interest to JH Partners and the Highland Consumer Fund, Deckers Outdoor Corporation’s acquisition of Sanuk USA, PPR SA’s purchase of Volcom, Inc. and the purchase of Betsey Johnson by Steve Madden Ltd. Additional transactions include the $150 million recapitalization of Zale Corporation, as well as the $750 million recapitalization of Quiksilver Inc., the restructuring of Wilton Industries, Inc., Deb Shops, and Neways, Inc. Other M&A transactions include the sale of Athleta, Inc. to the Gap Inc., advising Istithmar World on its $942 million purchase of Barneys New York, the sale of Citizens of Humanity to Berkshire Partners, the sale of Barneys to Jones Apparel Group, and the acquisition of Disney Store North America by The Children’s Place. Prior to joining PJSC, Mr. Cooper was Co-Founder and Vice Chairman of Barington Capital Group, a partner at Scharf Brothers and a Vice President at Kidder Peabody.
