Joseph Stein is a Partner and leads Financing Advisory. In that capacity, Joseph advises clients on financing transactions, including the placement of various loans with both banks and direct lenders. Since joining Solomon Partners in 2001, Joseph has arranged more than $20 billion of debt and equity capital for acquisitions, general corporate purposes and highly structured rescue financing. Loans or other securities are typically placed with an array of banks, BDCs, finance companies, hedge funds, specialty debt funds or other institutional investors. Select transactions include: $380 million senior secured debt for Perry Ellis International, $200 million dividend recapitalization for Maurices Inc., $650 million debt recapitalization for Designer Brands, $300 million asset-based revolving credit facility and first-in last-out term loan for Chico’s, $835 million senior secured debt recapitalization for RadioShack Corporation, $150 million senior secured debt with warrants for Zale Corporation, $150 million senior secured debt with warrants for Quiksilver, $445 million senior secured recapitalization for Media General, Inc. with Berkshire Hathaway, $2.4 billion of debt and equity financing for Sony/ATV Music Publishing’s acquisition of EMI Music Publishing and $165 million senior secured debt financing for take-private of Kenneth Cole Productions, Inc. Joseph was previously Executive Director and Head of the Private Placement Group at UBS Warburg LLC, responsible for the structure and placement of senior debt, subordinated debt and mezzanine securities for both domestic and foreign issuers. With more than 20 years of experience in investment banking, Joseph began his career at Manufacturers Hanover Trust Company in asset-based finance. He held various corporate finance positions at Citicorp Securities. Joseph holds an MBA from William E. Simon Graduate School of Business Administration at the University of Rochester and a BA from Hobart College.
