Mark, Chief Executive of the Family Building Society, has 30 years’ experience operating in the regulated financial services sector as an adviser, buyer and seller of businesses, working on strategy for two FTSE banks, and as a chief executive. He understands the need for a strategic foundation, planning, execution, dealing with the people issues and keeping the regulator and the risk and compliance people happy to get deals done. Prior to his current role he was CEO of IFG UK from 2004 to 2011, responsible for buying James Hay. Prior to that, from 1999, he built and then sold Moneyextra to Bank of Ireland and then turned Chase de Vere Investments around for them. He joined Barclays PLC in 1994 to be Planning Director and after various Group projects ran their UK and offshore funds business. He worked in the corporate finance department of Schroders from 1987, where he began his focus on financial services, and spent his last 3 years at Schroders working on Group strategy. He completed his articles with Slaughter and May and has an MA from Cambridge University. He acts as Chairman of Alexander Hall, Foxtons mortgage broker.
