Juan Carlos is Managing Partner, founder and Chairman of Sigrun Partners. Previously (2001 to 2009) he was Executive Chairman of Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) for Spain, Portugal and Latin America (Mexico, Colombia, Venezuela, Peru, Brazil, Argentina and Chile). He initiated and consolidated RBS’s operations in these regions and achieved in all countries a leading position in wholesale banking (Treasury and Markets), corporate banking (financing), structured and leveraged finance, as well as corporate finance. In addition, from 2007 to 2009 he led the integration of ABN’s operations with RBS in Spain, Portugal, Chile, Argentina, Venezuela, Colombia, Peru and Mexico, as well as the opening of the RBS Brazil branch. Prior to RBS, Juan Carlos worked as Senior Banker and Executive Director at Banco Santander, participating in advisory and corporate finance and acquisitions for clients in TMT, Utilities, Aviation, etc. in Iberia. In his early professional career, he was also Manager and Senior Consultant at Accenture / Andersen Consulting (Madrid), as well as Deputy CFO at Ascom AG (Switzerland). Juan Carlos is currently a board member in Talde Gestión SGEIC (oldest PE in Spain), as well as a member of the IESE Alumni Madrid Association, among others. He has also been board member of Molgas Energía (2010 to 2020), Moira Capital Partners (2017 to 2020), DBRS (2010 to 2015), RBS Europe (2003 to 2009) and RBS Americas (2006 to 2009). He holds a degree (Lic. rer. pol.), cum laude, in Economics and Business Administration from the University of Bern, Switzerland, and an Executive MBA from IESE Business School.
