José María is an expert in the infrastructure and energy sectors, and in financing, being one of the Iberian market’s leading specialists in non-bank financing. Before founding Sigrun, he was the head of the Project Finance department of the Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) in Spain and Portugal, for infrastructure and energy sectors worldwide, including financial advisory, project finance and mergers and acquisitions (M&A). During those years, RBS was the world’s leading bank in Project Finance operations. Between 1995 and 2003, he worked at BNP Paribas leading various areas of structured finance, including Project & Export Finance, Shipping & Aircraft Finance and Asset Finance, mainly in Spain, Portugal, Latin America, the Middle East and Asia. Earlier, in 1991, he joined Midland Bank Plc (HSBC) in Madrid where he learned about corporate banking, treasury products and structured finance. He holds a degree in Economics and Business Administration from the Universidad Comercial de Deusto and an MBA from the Stern School of Business, NYU.
