Sarah Patel was appointed Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer for Global Banking and Markets in January 2024. In this role, she is responsible for the day-to-day operations of Global Banking and Markets, developing and implementing strategy and priority business and regulatory initiatives as well as all global client and business analytics. Sarah joined Scotiabank in the Bank’s UK office in January 2017 and, since that time, has held a number of increasingly senior transformation roles within GBM, from Compliance Advisory, Regulatory Initiatives and more recently as Global Head of Business Transformation. She transferred to the Bank’s Toronto office in 2017 as Vice President, Global Head of Regulatory Initiatives. Through her roles, Sarah has played an integral role in critical transformation projects at Scotiabank including: leading the Bank through the transition away from LIBOR, managing a program of work to respond to enhanced Swap Dealer supervision and leading a program of business modernisation. Prior to joining Scotiabank, Sarah held an executive role at UBS, leading regulatory initiatives, and led data change and other initiatives for European Banks as a management consultant. She holds a Bachelor of Economics from Newcastle University in England.
