James Carpenter is the founder and has been Senior Managing Director (CEO) of Riverside Management Group, LLC (RMG) for 22 years. RMG is a merchant bank with approximately 30 senior professionals and advisors who have completed billions of dollars of transactions as advisors, principal investors and as management. These include mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, equity and debt placements. Mr. Carpenter focuses primarily on opportunities in metals and energy (primarily those that reduce CO2) and environmental services. Mr. Carpenter is the former CEO of Horsehead Industries (renamed American Zinc Recycling, the largest zinc producer and largest recycler of hazardous waste in the US. While there he led a highly successful turnaround during all time low zinc prices. The company soon thereafter reached a valuation of nearly $2 billion. Mr. Carpenter was a founding investor, longtime advisor and current board member of Allied Resource Corp , a clean water and clean energy company. He has raised approximately four hundred million dollars for Allied and its subsidiary Puraglobe, a world leader in waste oil recycling. He also is a founder of Mohegan Energy where he led the capital formation for the acquisition of Met Resources, a company with over 40 million tons of steel making coal reserves. He has advised many institutional investors and family offices on industrial opportunities including, but not limited to, Goldman Sachs, WL Ross, Metalmark Capital, Court Square, Rockbridge (Dan Gilbert family office), Wellspring Capital, and The Gores Group. Mr. Carpenter graduated from Boston University in 1989 and holds the series 24, 82 & 63 securities licenses.
