Telly Zachariades, based in New York, is a managing director and global chairman of the chemicals group at Piper Sandler. He has almost 40 years of investment banking experience – all in the chemicals industry and the vast majority in M&A advisory. In the last 15 years alone, Zachariades has advised on more than 60 completed M&A transactions, both on the buy and sell-side, totaling over $60 billion in value for a wide variety of clients, including major publicly-listed corporations, private equity firms and privately held businesses in North America, Europe, Asia and Latin America. Throughout his entire career, he has advised on at least 200 transactions worth over $100 billion. In 2007, Zachariades co-founded The Valence Group, a boutique investment banking firm that was acquired by Piper Sandler in 2020. Prior to that, he spent seven years as global head of Bear Stearns' chemicals investment banking practice and 17 years at Chase Manhattan in London and New York as a senior investment banker covering the chemicals industry. He began his career working as an engineer for Conoco from 1981 to 1983, during which Conoco was acquired by DuPont. Zachariades earned a bachelor's degree in naval architecture in 1979 and a master's degree in engineering in 1980 from the University of Newcastle-upon-Tyne, England.
