Gene is a Managing Director, bringing more than 25 years of domestic and cross-border M&A, strategic advisory, private equity and corporate finance expertise to Oberon. He has advised both large and small companies, financial sponsors and family offices on mergers and acquisitions, strategic partnerships, corporate strategy and equity and debt financings. Gene has advised on over $20 billion in transactions across a broad range of sectors, including aerospace & defense, energy & chemicals, agriculture & food, diversified industrials, TMT, consumer & retail, real estate & lodging and health & wellness. Prior to joining Oberon, Gene was a Managing Director at Compass Partners Advisors, an international merchant banking firm focused on M&A and strategic advisory services, private capital raising and private investments. Previously, Gene was a co-founder and Managing Director of Barnett & Partners, a middle market M&A and strategic advisory firm. He also co-founded Georgetown Capital Group, an advisory boutique that advised early-to-mid stage private companies on strategic planning, corporate development and private placements. Gene was also previously a Vice President at The Blackstone Group, where he specialized in international M&A advisory activities, with a focus on the Asia-Pacific region. Before joining Blackstone, Gene began his Wall Street career at Salomon Brothers, where he completed a wide range of M&A transactions and equity and debt financings for companies in the natural resources, chemicals and diversified industrials sectors. In addition, Gene was previously a Law Clerk to the Honorable J. Clifford Wallace, a senior judge on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. Gene earned his J.D. from Harvard Law School, where he was a member of the Harvard Law Review, and his B.A. in Chemistry from Dartmouth College. Gene also attended the California Institute of Technology as a National Science Foundation Predoctoral Fellow in Chemistry.
