Charles is the founder and CEO of IBIS Capital, where he has spent the last 19 years building a flexible, technology-focused investment bank that can both invest in and advise companies and their shareholders. In 2013, Charles co-founded ImpactX, which is home to the EdTechX, HealthTechX and FoodTechX brands. In 2018, Charles co-led the Nasdaq IPO of EdTechX Holdings, the first special purpose acquisition company (SPAC) focused on the education sector. In December 2020, Charles co-led the IPO of EdTechX Holdings II, the vehicle’s second vintage, becoming the world’s first repeat issuer of a SPAC focused on the education sector. Prior to founding IBIS, Charles was at Apax Partners, where he spun off the investment banking business together with senior management in 1998. The business was built up and sold in 2001 for $200m. Charles is also a Governor of the National Institute of Economic and Social Research and sits on the board of a number of companies in the media and education sectors. He holds a joint honours degree in Economics and Philosophy from the London School of Economics and continues with further education, most recently with an executive course in ESG Investing at Columbia Business School.
