Bio

Neil Shah is a Senior Managing Director in the Firm’s Strategic Advisory practice and leads Evercore’s Global SPAC Advisory business. He recently led the largest SPAC merger in global history with a $40bn transaction of Grab with Altimeter Growth Corp. This transaction also included the largest SPAC PIPE in global history at $4.0bn. Other recent SPAC merger transactions include advising on CCC’s $6.5bn merger with Dragoneer Growth Opportunities, Vivid Seats’ $2.1bn merger with Horizon Acquisition, EVgo’s $2.0bn merger with Climate Real Impact Solutions, AvePoint’s $1.7bn merger with Apex Techology, and Paya’s $1.3bn merger with Fintech III Acquisition. Since joining Evercore in 2019, he has helped build a dedicated team of SPAC advisory professionals exclusively focused on delivering best in class SPAC advice to companies, management teams and existing shareholders. Prior to joining Evercore, Mr. Shah founded and concurrently ran Citi’s Alternative Capital Markets and Private Capital Markets businesses globally. Over the past 20 years, he has advised financial sponsors, family offices, companies and executives, in the areas of alternative capital formation including SPACs as well as direct listings, new product formation, private equity co-investments, PIPEs and structured equity investments. He pioneered the first SPAC by a bulge bracket bank in 2005 and played an instrumental role in the rise of the SPAC market in 2014. He has successfully closed a record number of SPAC deals, including over 40 SPAC Mergers and over 25 SPAC PIPEs. Mr. Shah has over 20 years of investment banking, M&A and capital markets experience. He joined Evercore in 2019 after a long career at Citi, which he had joined in 2004. Between 2010 and 2013, Mr. Shah was with KKR, where he was Head of Equity Capital Markets and ran its co-investment business. Prior to Citi, Mr. Shah was with KPMG Corporate Finance in their M&A and valuations group. Mr. Shah started his career in 1995 with the law firm of Blakes in Toronto. Mr. Shah is a graduate of Harvard Law School and the University of Ottawa. He is also a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA).
