Bio

Marcus Thompson is a Senior Managing Director and Co-Head of the Utilities, Infrastructure and Transport Group in Europe and Asia. Mr. Thompson has over 20 years of global M&A and Capital Markets experience having worked in London, New York and Hong Kong. He focuses on mergers & acquisitions, capital raisings and restructurings. Mr. Thompson has advised on a number of significant transactions, including: JP Morgan Asset Management on acquiring Iberwind (c. 700MW), Portugal from CKI and PAH; TPG on acquiring a global solar power portfolio (c. 1,000MW) from Trina Solar Corp; China Light & Power (CLP; owner of EnergyAustralia), together with China Southern Power Grid, on acquisition of ExxonMobil’s Hong Kong electricity business (c. 7,000MW) (Hong Kong Deal of the Year, FinanceAsia); Sale of Solarcentury to Statkraft (c. 6,000MW); CLP on acquisition of minority stake in Yangjiang Nuclear Power Company (c. 6,000MW); Astra International on acquisition of 40km of Trans Java Toll Road, Indonesia; Mitsui / Challenger EMIF on acquisition of six water projects in China; Jardines, Hutchison Ports, Wharf and China National Aviation Corp on acquisition of Hong Kong Air Cargo Terminals Limited from Cathay Pacific, Swire and CITIC; YTL Power on acquisition of PowerSeraya (3,100MW) from Temasek (Singapore Deal of the Year, FinanceAsia); Finning on public takeover of Hewden Stuart plc on the London Stock Exchange; sale of Uskmouth Power (363MW), UK; IPO of Wellstream on London Stock Exchange; public takeover defence of Anglian Water Plc on London Stock Exchange. Prior to joining Evercore, Mr. Thompson was a Partner and Managing Director at Lexicon Partners (London and Hong Kong), the independent investment bank that was acquired by Evercore in 2011. He opened Lexicon Partners’ Hong Kong office in March 2007 and was based in Hong Kong for 8 years. Mr Thompson began his investment banking career at Salomon Brothers, London (now re-branded “Citigroup”) in the 1990’s and has been part of the same senior team (ex Salomon Brothers and Lexicon Partners) which is now at Evercore for approximately 20 years. Before working in investment banking, he was a Corporate Solicitor at Linklaters, London. He has an Accounting Degree and a Law Degree (First Class Honours) from Australia and a Masters in Law (specializing in Corporate Finance) from Cambridge University where he was a Commonwealth Scholar.
