Bio

George Karalis is a London-based Managing Director in Evercore’s European Debt Advisory business. He is responsible for leading Evercore’s specialist derivatives and hedging advisory practice, assisting clients on all aspects of market-related risks arising from foreign exchange, interest rates, inflation and commodity prices in connection with cross-border M&A and financing transactions. George has more than 15 years of debt and derivatives advisory as well as corporate treasury experience. George joined Evercore from Centrus Advisors, where he was Managing Director and had responsibility for offering debt and derivatives advisory services to clients in the infrastructure, corporates and financial institution sectors. Before that he was with Chatham Financial, where he offered derivatives advisory services to corporate and private equity clients. George gained significant corporate treasury experience working in the Capital Markets team at National Grid, one of the biggest corporate debt issuers in the UK, as well as working for one of the leading corporates in the shipping sector (Angelicoussis Shipping Group). Some of his transactions include advising Thames Water on a c.£2bn inflation hedging programme; USS on their investment in inflation-linked cash flows for a UK-regulated utility; National Grid as capital structure advisor in relation to the Cadent sale process; First and JP Morgan as hedging and debt advisor as part of the ENW sale process; Associated British Ports on the restructuring of a c.£1bn interest rate swap portfolio through the bank and the investor repack market, as well as on a c.£200m new bank financing; Affinity Water on new inflation hedging as well as electricity hedging programs; Ancala in relation to bank financing for their portfolio company Portsmouth Water; and Ellevio on a multibillion-SEK interest rate swap restructuring program. George has also advised a series of utility clients, including ESB, UKPN, SGN and NGN, on optimisation of inflation and interest rate swap portfolios. George is a member of the Association of Corporate Treasurers in the UK and has an MBA from the Athens University of Economics and Business.
