A.J. Berens is a managing director in Evercore’s healthcare strategic advisory practice and focuses on subverticals, including care delivery, health insurance, pharmacy and distribution, diagnostics, and technologies that support these end markets. Mr. Berens advises for-profit and not-for-profit healthcare companies on their long-term strategies, mergers and acquisitions, and capital raising; he also advises private equity firms investing in healthcare services and technologies. Since joining Evercore from Barclays, Mr. Berens has also served public and private companies ranging from large-cap multinationals to high-growth firms funded by venture capital. He has worked with clients in China, Canada, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom. Examples of his client work include the sale of PWNHealth, a national clinician network working to improve early detection and disease prevention using advanced diagnostics and telehealth, to Everlywell, a multifaceted digital health company driving improved diagnostic access and technologies; the sale of Enclara Pharmacia, one of the nation’s largest hospice pharmacy and benefit management providers, to Humana, which is developing innovative delivery strategies across the care continuum; and the strategic partnership between the Kelsey-Seybold Clinic, one of the nation’s most advanced multispecialty physician practices and health plans, and TPG Capital. He received his B.A. in economics from the University of Maryland and an MBA from the Darden School of Business at the University of Virginia.
