Doug Juanarena has been responsible for developing, commercializing, and financing a variety of technologies and companies throughout his career. Mr. Juanarena began work in 1975 at the NASA Langley Research Center in the areas of instrumentation development. In 1978, he left NASA and founded Pressure Systems, Inc to produce pressure sensing instrumentation based on technology he helped develop while at NASA. In 1996, Mr. Juanarena sold Pressure Systems to The Roxboro Group PLC of Cambridge, England, remaining as President/CEO until July of 2000. From 1998 to 2005 he has played a central role in the success of Luna Innovations (fiber optic sensing and instrumentation products) both as a board member and investment banking corporate advisor. In 2000, Mr. Juanarena founded Luna Technologies (advanced optical testing instruments) in Blacksburg, Virginia, serving as its President and CEO. In 2006, Mr. Juanarena formed GenTek Ventures to advise technology businesses in raising private equity and structuring strategic partnerships, largely on behalf of companies emanating from technology or individuals associated with Virginia Tech. From 2010 through 2015 Mr. Juanarena served as a VP and GM for the Cloud Office business unit for Rackspace Hosting (RAX). Mr. Juanarena has authored numerous technical papers and articles on pressure sensing and instrumentation. He has lectured on electronic pressure scanning both in the U.S. and internationally and holds two patents on pressure scanning and high accuracy pressure measurement. He is a senior member of both the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), and the Instrument Society of America (ISA), and has served as a Program Evaluator for IEEE/ABET. Mr. Juanarena has served as a member of the board of directors of public and private technology companies, including Delta Dental of Virginia, Nematron Inc., Luna Innovations, and Weston Aerospace. Over the past 20 years, he has been actively involved in educational advisory boards at Virginia Polytechnic and State University and Christopher Newport University. Mr. Juanarena has also served on the board of various civic and community organizations, including the Virginia Economic Development Partnership, Virginia Technology Council, Hampton Roads Partnership, The Blacksburg Partnership, Hampton Roads Technology Council, Virginia Air and Space Center, and the Virginia Peninsula Chamber of Commerce. Mr. Juanarena holds a BS in Electrical Engineering from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and University (“Virginia Tech”).
