Bio

John Cogan has over 15 years of experience advising energy sector corporates, project developers and financial sponsors. Clients include electric and gas utilities, fossil and renewable generation companies, master limited partnerships in the oil and gas space and energy technology firms. Mr. Cogan has led numerous strategic reviews and M&A executions for companies in each of these sectors and important financings in each layer of the capital structure from bank debt, institutional term loans, notes, convertibles and common equity. Mr. Cogan's notable transaction activity includes PPL Corporation's $7.6bn acquisition of Louisville Gas & Electric and Kentucky Utilities and their acquisition of Central Networks in the UK for $5.5bn, the IPO of ITC Holdings and their subsequent acquisition of METC, NRG Energy's $4.2bn acquisition of GenOn, the construction of balance sheets for new companies including Dynegy, ITC Holdings, LKE and entities within the AEP and FirstEnergy families and leading the two largest equity and convertible offerings in the history of the US utility space for PPL. Mr. Cogan has been a thought leader on the high voltage electric transmission asset class, leading most of the important transactions in that space. Prior to Centerview, Mr. Cogan spent 13 years in the energy group at Credit Suisse and for the last two years served as Co-Head of the US Power & Utilities group. At Credit Suisse, Mr. Cogan served on the Investment Banking Committee. Mr. Cogan began his career in investment banking at Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette. Mr. Cogan received his MBA from the Yale School of Management and a BS from Wake Forest University.
