Bio

Massimo Mocio graduated magna cum laude from Bocconi University in Milan, earning a degree in Economics and Social Sciences (DES) with a thesis on Central Banks and the Coordination of Monetary Policies, in 1987. After starting off his career at Credito Italiano, in May 1988, he joined the Istituto Bancario San Paolo in Turin where he held various positions in the Foreign Affairs Department, and was later transferred to the bank’s London branch, becoming Head of the Equity Capital Markets and derivatives activity. In 1997, he completed the Investment Management Master Degree Programme at the London Business School. In 1999, he joined Banca Commerciale Italiana - London Branch, as Head of the Equity and Derivatives activities for the BCI Group. Following the 2001 merger of BCI and the Intesa Group, in 2002, he took over responsibility for the Equity - Trading and Sales markets at Banca Caboto, the Intesa Group’s Iinvestment Bank, and thereafter he was named Head of “Global Markets Trading". Following the 2007 merger between Banca Caboto and Banca IMI, in 2008, Mocio was named Head of Capital Management activities at the new Banca IMI, the then Investment Bank of Intesa Sanpaolo Group where all the activities in Capital Markets, Investment Banking and Structured Finance were concentrated. He was subsequently appointed as Head of all finance, proprietary-trading and investment activities making up the Finance & Investments Business Unit. In January 2015, he became Head of Global Markets Business Unit, which incorporated all the Intesa Sanpaolo Group’s activities on the financial markets, with regard to Capital Market, Sales Trading & Structuring, proprietary finance and investments. In January 2018, he was appointed General Manager of Banca IMI, taking over all the business lines including Markets, Structured Finance and Investment Banking. In July 2020, following the merger of Banca IMI into the parent company Intesa Sanpaolo, he is appointed Deputy Chief of IMI Corporate & Investment Banking Division and maintains all previous business responsibilities as Head of Global Markets & Investment Banking. In January 2023, he is responsible for the Coordination Area Global Banking & Markets. Mocio is also Chairman of Assiom Forex (the Financial Markets Association in Italy), Member of the Board of AFME (Association for Financial Markets in Europe) and Member of the Advisory Committee of Euronext Borsa Italiana. Previously, he was Board Member of Directors of Borsa Italiana S.p.A., Board Member of MTS S.p.A. and Board Member of ICMA (International Capital Markets Association).
