Bio

Mr. Durán co-founded Altra in 2005 after 14 years of operational, private equity investing, and consulting experience in the Andean region. Mr. Durán previously served as Investments Vice President of Valores Bavaria (now Valorem), the largest industrial conglomerate in Colombia. During his tenure, Mr.Durán was responsible for the overall performance of 10 portfolio companies in the media, telecom, petrochemical, and industrial sectors, which included the joint development with management of strategic and financial plans, the financial restructuring and operational turnaround of distressed investments, and acquisitions and divestitures. Over the course of this experience, Mr. Durán served as a Board Member of Caracol Televisión, the leading private national television network in Colombia; America Televisión, the leading Peruvian television network; Biofilm, the second-largest producer of polypropylene film in South America and Mexico; Aluminio Reynolds, the second-largest aluminum products manufacturer in Colombia; GLR, a leading Latin American radio broadcasting network; PCA, the largest food catering service for airlines and a significant player in the fast-food business in Colombia; Pesbocol, a leading player in Colombia’s frozen shrimp and canned tuna industry; and Media Capital, the largest media holding company in Portugal. Prior to joining Valorem, Mr. Durán worked in the Boston office of McKinsey & Company as a consultant to a major New England consumer packaged goods company. Before McKinsey, Mr. Durán worked at the Sanford Group, a leading industrial conglomerate in the Andean region, where he held numerous operating roles at both the portfolio and holding company level, including serving as CFO of Centelsa, the largest telecommunications and electrical cables manufacturer in the Andean region. Mr. Durán currently serves on the Boards of Digitex, Colfrigos, Proenfar, PetroTiger, Semiglo, TermoYopal, CrediQ, as well as Team and Grupo Luker, two of the largest industrial conglomerates in Colombia’s food and consumer goods industry, and Colegio Los Nogales, a private school in Bogotá. Mr. Durán holds an MBA from Harvard Business School and a Master in Finance and a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Universidad de los Andes in Bogotá.
