Marty Sutter Bio

Marty Sutter co-founded EW Healthcare Partners (originally called “Essex Woodlands”) in 1985 and has been instrumental in building EW’s growth equity investment practice since its beginning. Mr. Sutter serves as Chairman of the Investment Committees of Fund 1, Fund 2 and Fund 3. Mr. Sutter has been directly involved with more than 30 EW portfolio companies. He has led and served on the Boards of Directors of several EW growth equity investments including Abiomed (acquired by Johnson & Johnson), ATS Medical (acquired by Medtronic), BioForm Medical (acquired by Merz GmbH), and LifeCell (acquired by Kinetic Concepts). Mr. Sutter currently serves on the Board of Directors of EW portfolio companies MiMedx, Prolacta and Bioventus. In addition to serving on the boards of directors of EW portfolio companies, Mr. Sutter formerly served on the Board of Trustees of The Culinary Institute of America and was the past Chairman of The Texas Lyceum. Mr. Sutter holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Louisiana State University and a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Houston.
