Bruce Baty Bio

Bruce Baty has been advising insurance industry clients on corporate, reinsurance and regulatory matters for more than 35 years. He has a particular focus on corporate insurance transactions, reinsurance program design and implementation, reinsurance advice and arbitrations and regulatory compliance issues. His clients include property and casualty insurance companies, life, accident and health insurance companies, reinsurance companies, state insurance departments and other insurance industry participants. Bruce has extensive experience navigating the complex insurance regulatory landscape, providing guidance on product development and approvals, licensing, financial and market conduct examinations, holding company act compliance and ORSA and ERM filings. He serves as a trusted advisor on transactional matters including company formations, restructurings, redomestications, mergers and acquisitions (including Form A regulatory approvals) as well as other regulatory aspects of these transactions. Bruce has represented ceding and reinsurance companies in arbitrations for many years, including defending a life reinsurer's decision to raise rates on YRT business, challenging a cedent's management of a block of business and enforcing reinsurers obligation to follow the settlements of their reinsureds. Bruce also advises insurers and state insurance regulators on insolvency issues, drawing on his experience in representing a number of state insurance departments in the rehabilitation and liquidation of insurance companies. He currently serves as Special Deputy Receiver to two insurance companies in liquidation.
